Are you curious about Soap Making?
Gathering Ingredients: Oils and Fats: We use olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower, castor and palm oil. Lye (Sodium Hydroxide): A crucial ingredient for the saponification process. Water: To mix with lye and create the lye solution. Fragrances and Additives: Essential oils, herbs, and colorants for added benefits and aesthetics.
Preparing the Lye Solution: Carefully mix lye with water. This mixture will heat up and should be handled with caution.
Heating Oils: Melt and heat the oils and fats to a specified temperature.
Combining Lye and Oils: Gradually add the lye solution to the melted oils, stirring continuously.
Saponification: This is the chemical reaction where lye and oils turn into soap. The mixture will thicken during this process.
Adding Fragrances and Additives: Once the mixture reaches a thick consistency (trace), add any essential oils, herbs, or colorants.
Pouring into Molds: Pour the soap mixture into molds and smooth the surface.
Curing: Allow the soap to set in the molds for about 24-48 hours. Once solid, remove the soap from the molds and cut it into bars. Let the soap cure for 4-6 weeks to allow excess water to evaporate and the soap to harden.
And that's it! The soap is now ready to be used or sold. Remember, safety is crucial when handling lye, so protective gear and careful handling are essential. Happy soap making! 🧼✨
